The Cocktails

Did you know our company is built on a cocktail? So is our pricing structure... Cheers!

The Last Word

This is The Last Word. There is no First Word or Middle Word. Just the Last Word. I don’t know why it’s called the Last Word. I’m not going to ask, either. That would take valuable time away from drinking it.

The recipe was rumored to have been found in a trove of old, torn, sepia-toned notebook pages dating from the early twentieth century by a Seattle barman named Murray. No one's quite sure how he came across said trove.

We imagine it probably involved him replacing the trove with a sandbag of equal weight to prevent certain death from a booby trapped South American temple. Or perhaps he found it in a desk he picked up from the Goodwill. We'll never know.

What we do know is that Murray recovered and repopularized it, and it's now served in bars across the world. And thank goodness, because once we tried it we had to have it again.

The Recipe

  • 1 oz London Dry Gin
  • 1 oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
  • 1 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 1 oz Maraschino Liqueur

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass full of ice and stir for 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime wedge/wheel/twist.

The Cosmopolitan

The Laynes are big Cosmo fans. Mr. Layne used to make Ms. Layne a Cosmo or two after a particularly stressful day at work. Or a non stressful day at work. Or a weekend.

Come to think of it, anytime we Laynes wanted a cocktail at home, at least one of them was sure to be a Cosmo.

We’ve tried many different recipes over the years but still come back to the recipe we started with. It came from a book our dear college friend gave Ms. Layne for her 21st birthday.

The Recipe

  • 1.5 oz Vodka (Doesn’t need to be fancy.)
  • .5 oz Triple Sec
  • 1 oz Cranberry Juice (We recommend Ocean Spray, non-organic - it just tastes better)
  • .5 oz Lime Juice (freshly squeezed)

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass full of ice and stir for 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime wedge/wheel/twist.

Geek factoid: When making this drink for two people, the ratio is the same as Mr. Layne's favorite Prince album, 3121.
